Quarshie suffering from Parkinson's not lung cancer

Ex-Ghana captain Emmanuel Quarshie has developed early stages of Parkinson's disease, a shock medical report in Egypt has been revealed to MTNFootball.com.

The former Zamalek player arrived in Cairo on Tuesday, at the invitation of the club's president Mamdouh Abass, to undergo treatment for what he thought was lung cancer.

But doctors have in the Egyptian capital have revealed that the former national star's ailment is far from what was originally thought to be affecting him.

He underwent tests at a Cairo hospital on Wednesday which revealed the severity of his illness but doctors in one of the top hospitals in Egypt say they will offer him effective treatment.

"Quarshie showed the early signs of Parkinson's disease and not lung cancer,? a top Zamalek official told MTNFootball.com on condition of anonymity.

"The doctors say it is possible for him to respond to treatment in the coming days, which will make him recover from the illness."

Quarshie was living in Ghana thinking he was suffering from lung cancer until Zamalek arrived in the country to play Berekum Chelsea in the Champions League.

Zamalek chief Abass worried over the plight of the player, who helped them to win several titles including the Champions League, paid for the midfielder to travel to Egypt for effective treatment.

Quarshie was the captain of Ghana's national team that won their last Nations Cup title in 1982.

Samsung camera lets you take self-shots with a gesture

9 hrs.

Samsung has introduced a new point-and-shoot camera called the MV900F that features a flip-up screen and the ability to zoom or capture shots by waving your hands around. It also has Wi-Fi built in so you can share from the camera directly to sites like Facebook and YouTube.

As phone cameras continue to overtake the once-ubiquitous digital point-and-shoot, companies like Samsung are always looking for new features to differentiate their devices. The latest innovation from Samsung is a touchscreen that flips up 180 degrees for easy framing of self-portraits. It's certainly a better solution than their ill-fated DualView cameras, which had a tiny secondary screen next to the lens.

The new MV900F also allows you to control the camera by moving your hands in certain ways: in a circle to control zoom, and up and down to fire the shutter (presumably after a short countdown).

It takes 16-megapixel pictures and 1080p video using a 5x zoom lens with an F/2.5 maximum aperture, meaning it can capture quite a bit of light in darker situations.

The camera should be available in August for $350.

Family's Home and Business Lost after Downtown Alma Fire ...

An Alma family is homeless after Leta?s Furniture and Antiques on Fayetteville Avenue in downtown Alma caught fire Tuesday night.

The Alma Fire Department received the call about the fire between 9:30 and 9:45 Tuesday night. Police blocked of downtown streets as crews worked to put out the fire.

Firefighters put out the flames and left the scene around 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to the fire chief. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Alma 7th Day Adventist Church and Hudson?s gym located next to the antique shop both sustained smoke and water damage. The church moved Wednesday night?s bible study to a member?s house.

The gym?s owner expects people to work out Wednesday evening.

The owner of the antique shop, Michael Cruse, moved into the building 14 years ago and lived in the shop with his wife. He says he was downstairs with is family when the fire sparked. When the couple saw the flames they say they rushed out with their granddaughter.

The Cruse family closed the antique store about six years ago. They say they had hoped to open the business back up. Firefighters say the building is a total loss.

The couple says they only had liability insurance, and despite their loss they say they?re glad they made it out alright.

Leta Cruse and her husband moved into an RV. ?We can always start over,? she said.

Uptown Girl Consignment and Boutique was closed Wednesday because of smoke damage, according to the owner Vickie Dickinson. ?I just have a lot of stuff that just a washing machine and a dryer just isn?t going to get the smell out,? she said.

Dickinson is not sure what is next. She said, ?I don?t know if I?m going to be able to reopen.?

Wired Science: Google Experiments With 5 New Web Connected Installations In London

Web Lab_ OrchestraThis isn't quite on the same level as Google's Project Glass experiment, but Google today launched a set of five physical installations housed in London's Science Museum. These installations, which users anywhere can control remotely, are meant to "inspire people around the world by showcasing the making that the Internet makes possible." While Google doesn't mention this explicitly in its post, chances are that the launch of this exhibition was timed to coincide with the Olympics in London.

Super+Bowl+XLIII+1Ef3coWxMpalGetty Images

Winning a Super Bowl not only will complete receiver Larry Fitzgerald?s career, but it also will distinguish him from the growing throng of big-numbers-no-titles wideouts who can?t get in to Canton without paying the admission fee.

And so, as the Cardinals prepare to face the Saints on August 5 at Fawcett Stadium, Fitzgerald will get a little extra incentive for his attempt to return at least five years after he calls it quits.

In an interview with the Hall of Fame?s website, Fitzgerald addresses the fact that two former Pitt Panthers will be inducted the day before the game: ?Curtis Martin and Chris Doleman.

And Fitzgerald even breaks out some Pitt trivia along the way.

?Though my career at Pitt lasted only two seasons, the experience left me with strong positive feelings about the city, the university, the coaches, my teammates and the great people of Pittsburgh,? Fitzgerald says, even though a loss to the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII may have dimmed his view of the ?Burgh, just a bit. ??It was an enjoyable time in my life, and I sometimes reflect on the football program?s longstanding success. ?Our eight Hall of Famers covered every decade from the 1950s right through to the turn of the century, showing remarkable consistency. And, let?s not forget that?Joe Stydahar, a 1930s and ?40 Hall of Fame lineman, originally played for Pitt before transferring to our hated archrival, West Virginia. ?His Hall of Fame honor makes nine for Pitt, with an asterisk!?

Technically, Stydahar never played for Pitt, which is why Pitt doesn?t get credit for a ninth Hall of Famer. ?Whether Fitzgerald becomes the ninth is the bigger question.

?Every practice, every play, every series, every game of every season I?m in a chase of the pursuit of greatness,? Fitzgerald says. ??The standard has been set by the likes of?Don Hutson,?Lance Alworth,?Charley Taylor,?Jerry Rice?and?Michael Irvin. So, I just try and stay healthy, focused, productive and humble and reach for greater heights ? getting back to and winning the Super Bowl.?

If that happens, he?ll be joining the other all-time great receivers in the Hall of Fame. ?He still may make it without a championship, but it would be easier to get a bronze bust if he can flash a diamond ring.
