CHP&R SPRING PROGRAMS: The Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department (bit.ly/yvdwZA) is accepting registration for its spring athletic programs, including adult softball "C League," Pee Wee and Little League Baseball, youth softball and USTA tennis for all ages. For more information, call 968-2784. The Rec Department will offer QuickStart Tennis lessons for ages 6-10 Saturdays, March-May. The fee is $30 for residents and $36 for others. Signup for the first classes ends March 10, and April for the April-May sessions. USTA Junior Tennis, using a QuickStart format, will teach and play Tuesdays and Sundays in April-May. The deadline to register via docta.org is March 23. Adult recreational softball costs $600 per team, with a $200 deposit required at registration and an additional $5 fee for each non-Orange County resident. The deadline is March 5, but sooner if the league is filled. Pee Wee Baseball, and co-ed instructional league for ages 5-6 on Saturday mornings, April-June, costs $50 for residents, $60 for others. Little League Baseball and softball is for boys and girls ages 7-12, with a season running from late March through early June. Individual registration costs $60 for residents, $72 for nonresidents, and space is limited. Volunteer coaches are needed for teams from ages 7-12. The Chapel Hill Rec Department offers tennis lessons for all ages throughout the year. Registration has opened for Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation's summer camps. Call 968-2784 for more information.SPRING IN CARRBORO: Registration is open for all Carrboro Recreation and Parks' spring sports. That includes Carrboro baseball leagues for ages 6-14, and Baseball C.L.A.S.S. instruction in the fundamentals of baseball for beginners. Carrboro also hosts girls' volleyball and field hockey leagues this spring, and offers co-ed beginner and intermediate tennis lessons throughout the year. The Micro soccer program is for the Under-8 and Under-6 age groups. Divisions include coed and all-girls options for 3-4-year-olds, 5-year-olds-Kindergarten, 1st-2nd grades, and 3rd-5th grades. The oldest division is a coed 6th-8th grade group.Y Spring Volleyball opens registration Feb. 24. The program is for beginners and players with limited experience. 5th-6th graders will play on Tuesday nights (April 17-May 29), and 6th-8th graders on Thursday nights (April 19-May 31). Both divisions are open to 6th graders, with the older group more of a fit for 6th grade players with some prior experience.Y Summer Camp - the former "All-S.T.A.R. Sports Camp" is now "Chapel Hill Y Day Camp," and will expand its activity range while still maintaining a focus on active team-based games and sports.DIXIE ROCK 23, billed as the oldest indoor rock climbing competition in the United States, will be held April 20-21 at the Chapel Hill Community Center off South Estes drive. For more information, check chapelhillparks.org.PBC SPRING TRAIL: The Piedmont Bass Classics 2012 Spring Trail features two stops at Jordan Lake before the tour returns there June 23 for its $5,000 championship. The PBC's first stop at Jordan Lake will be on March 24. Other dates are: April 14 at Kerr Lake, April 28 at Falls Lake, May 19 back at Jordan Lake and June 19 at Falls Lake again.
